Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Calculator

Using height, weight and varying factors of age and gender, BMR calculates the amount of energy your body uses at rest to maintain normal body functions. It is the amount of calories your body burns per day, regardless of exercise.

For women,
BMR = 655 + ( 9.6 x weight in kilos ) + ( 1.8 x height in cm ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

For men,
BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) - ( 6.8 x age in years )

With the BMR, daily calorie needs based on each person’s activity level can be determined using Harris Benedict Equation:

ACTIVITY LEVEL DAILY CALORIE REQUIRED
Little or no exercise BMR x 1.2
Exercise 1 to 3 times per week BMR x 1.375
Exercise 3 to 5 times per week BMR x 1.55
Exercise 6 to 7 times per week BMR x 1.725

The above is the daily calorie required to maintain current weight. To lose weight, daily calories intake would have to be lower reduced by 500 to 1000 per day.
